Richard L. Kaplan
Richard L. Kaplan, CPA graduated from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 1965 with BA degree in Accounting. He practiced public accounting until May of 1971 when he entered the life insurance business with Connecticut Mutual Life Ins. Co. in Beverly Hills and while there, formed a partnership with an insurance agent who had formed a qualified retirement plan servicing company. The Company (Retirement Services, Inc.) was a third party administration company (TPA) for retirement plans design, implementation and administration of qualified retirement plans.
Kaplan has continued in the same field until today with various companies as owner, partner, officer employee and now has his own independent consulting firm (Good Fortune Consulting, LLC) where he continues to act in a sales capacity only. Kaplan has consulted and maintained primary servicing responsibility for over a 1000 qualified retirement plans with revenues exceeding $2,000,000 per year. He has led all of the companies in which he has had ownership interests in sales of new and takeover retirement plans. He was responsible for creating the curriculum and also teaching qualified retirement plans for the UCLA extension para-legal program for over 10 years. He has been a member of various industry organization supporting the continuing education and credentialing of persons working in the retirement plan business.
In 1992, at the request of his fraternity brother, Harold Davidson PhD, he participated in the recolonization of the Alpha Delta Chapter of ZBT at the University of Southern California and has acted as advisor and trustee to this day. He has been involved with several charitable organizations and is currently Vice Chairman of the Junior Blind or America, a 25 year member of the Water Buffalo Club, an organization serving children’s charities with budgets of under $350,000 and the Beverly Hills Charitable Foundation. In 2007 he was part of the formation of the ZBT Southern California Area Alumni Association and served as its President until 2014.
